Hong Kong police have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of stabbing three customs officers during a drug raid in To Kwa Wan, bringing an end to a six-day manhunt.

The suspect was the fifth person taken into custody in connection with the incident last Thursday. Officers have also seized HK$1.8 million (US$231,574) worth of narcotics from the flat targeted in the anti-drug operation.

Gar Kam-lam, the acting senior superintendent of the force’s Kowloon West regional crime headquarters, said the man was arrested on the streets of Yuen Long on Wednesday morning, with officers to investigate whether he had planned to abscond from the city.

The latest arrest marked the end of a six-day manhunt.

“We don’t know if he was thinking [about absconding], but he has been arrested and hasn’t had the chance to flee,” Gar said.

Gar said the 38-year-old suspect had moved between various hideouts in Sai Kung and Hung Shui Kiu, before being located in Yuen Long.

“We visited his hiding spots in Sai Kung and Hung Shui Kiu and searched those places. That’s how we could tell he had been hiding in different spots,” he said.
