South Korea has co-sponsored a U.N. resolution on North Korea’s human rights violations for the third consecutive year, despite concerns that the Lee Jae-myung administration would downplay the regime’s systemic abuses to support diplomacy with Pyongyang.

The U.N. General Assembly Third Committee’s resolution on North Korean human rights was submitted by the EU on Nov. 4 and is expected to be adopted later this month, South Korea’s foreign affairs ministry told NK News on Wednesday. Once it passes the Third Committee, the resolution will be sent to the U.N. General Assembly for a final decision in December.
