Stephen Curry’s historic night powered the Golden State Warriors to a 109–108 road win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, scoring 49 points to secure the NBA Cup Group Play victory.
Curry recorded his 44th game with 40 or more points since turning 30, tying Michael Jordan for the most in NBA history.
Curry added four rebounds and two assists and two steals, shooting an efficient 16-of-26 from the field and setting the tone on both ends. Jimmy Butler III added 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, along with eight rebounds.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 8-6 on the season and 1-1 in NBA Cup West Group C.
San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama led the way with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, adding three blocks as the Spurs fell to 1-1 in Group Play and 8-4 on the season.
Fans celebrated Curry’s historic night, which helped secure an NBA Cup victory for the Warriors.
The Warriors held a slim two-point lead over the Spurs at halftime, led by 18 points from Curry, while Butler added 10 points. Spurs’ Wembenyama entered the break with 10 points, while Fox added 14 points.
The Warriors and Spurs traded leads throughout the second half before Curry sank two free throws to secure the win down the stretch.
Golden State will host Portland on Nov. 21 for its next NBA Cup game, but before then will hit the road to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
