Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase could be looking at being disciplined by the NFL after an incident with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Sunday.
Chase and Ramsey got into a brief altercation during Sunday’s contest, and it ended with Ramsey throwing a punch at Chase and being ejected. Ramsey said after the game that Chase had spit on him, which spurred the punch.
Though Chase denied spitting on Ramsey, video footage appears to show him doing so.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league will review the incident.
If the NFL finds that Chase did spit on Ramsey, he could be in for a suspension.
Earlier this season, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spat on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first snap. The NFL would have suspended Carter, but determined that he had essentially already served a one-game suspension since the ejection came so early.
Assuming the NFL follows that standard, it would mean Chase will be suspended one game.
Being without Chase would be a tough break for a 3-7 Bengals squad. Chase is the driving force of the offense, recording 79 receptions for 861 yards and five touchdowns this year.
Taking down the New England Patriots without him would be a tall task.
