For many, a new year signals the perfect time to start fresh—and celebrities are, indeed, very much like us in this respect. Case in point: Hailey Bieber. On Sunday night, the beauty entrepreneur, Vogue cover star, and model shared a selfie that included the newest Rhode phone accessory, the hottest iPhone of the moment, and a fresh chop.

Last we saw her, Bieber was sharing snaps from a trip to Japan. Her chest-skimming lengths (in a shade of teddy bear brown) were parted in the middle with long, face-framing layers. But as of today, Bieber is back on Team Bob—or, if we’re being really specific, Team Lob. Her new look is a handful of inches shorter, with a few more layers.

And what, you may be asking, is a “lob,” exactly? The term is a portmanteau of “long” and “bob,” referring to anything that hits around the clavicle. It’s the perfect cut for the mom of a young child, like Bieber, given it has all the edge and fun of a short cut, with a bit more ease. (You can more easily fit it into a ponytail, after all.)

Besides, Bieber loves an aughts reference, and her new ’do has a touch of that: It feels comparable to the it-cut worn by Rachel Green in Friends. New year, iconic cut.
