South Korean President Lee Jae-myung introduced a new initiative to usher in “a new era of peaceful coexistence” with North Korea in his first address to the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA), reiterating the need to continue working toward denuclearization while fostering inter-Korean cooperation.
On Tuesday, the opening day of the UNGA’s annual General Debate, Lee told the assembled world leaders that restoring the “broken trust” between the two Koreas and building “mutual respect” is the first step toward realizing this vision after 80 years of division.
