California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Sunday he will take the Trump administration to court over the deployment of 300 California National Guard troops to Oregon.
“After a federal court blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon,” Newsom wrote in a post on social media.
“They are on their way there now.”
Newsom’s post followed a ruling by a federal judge late on Saturday that temporarily blocked Trump from deploying Oregon National Guard troops to the city of Portland.
The judge blocked Trump from sending the troops until at least October 18, citing a lack of evidence that recent protests necessitated the move.
Trump had called the city “war-ravaged”.
