Esteban Cortázar is bringing an endless summer feeling to The Standard Spa, Miami Beach this fall.

A year and a half after launching his resortwear label, Donde Esteban, the Colombian designer is opening the doors to his first pop-up store in partnership with the hotel on Saturday.

“This particular pop-up is something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time, because I was at the Standard Miami Beach the day it opened. Donde Esteban is a very personal project and new brand that is very linked to the cities that make up who I am and the way that I’ve grown up,” Cortázar told WWD of being born in Colombia, raised in Miami, living in New York and Paris and citing inspirations from Ibiza. He explained that the brand’s name, translated into “at Esteban’s” or “where is Esteban’s?” serves as an invitation for communities to join in. “A lot of small towns in Colombia use donde Maria or donde Mario, such as for a hair salon or a cafeteria, so that’s where the concept came from,” he said.

Running through Dec. 7, the curated, vibrant “La Tiendita Donde Esteban” pop-up was designed to bring the designer’s Colombian roots to life and celebrate Miami’s Caribbean culture through its tiendita-inspired design.

In addition, the designer has collaborated with The Standard Spa, Miami Beach on a artful and tropical limited-edition capsule collection, made up of four styles featuring the collection’s custom ’90s style cartoon graphic depicting a surrealist, playful vision of The Standard Miami Beach’s pool scene. Styles include a unisex cotton graphic T for $130; a six-panel baseball cap for $80; a colorful beach pareo, said to be inspired by The Standard’s signature yellow and white striped towels, for $195, and a canvas tote bag for $75.

“In store, I’m also going to have the Donde Esteban collections from resort, a few core pieces that we always have in the collection, and a little bit of a potpourri of a little bit of everything — kind of an introduction to the brand in Miami,” Cortázar said of the pop-up’s offering of cocktail dresses, cover-ups and bathing suits, T-shirts and accessories featuring his signature prints, said to be inspired by his father’s landscape and sketch artworks.

To celebrate the opening of the”La Tiendita Donde Esteban” pop-up, the Standard Spa, Miami Beach and Donde Esteban are hosting a “Lazy Sunday Colombian BBQ” on Nov. 2, featuring a custom-branded drink, Costeñita beer, Tajin seasoning and more.

“Really bringing that Latin flavor — spicy, fun — and staying away from the pretentious things, when everything has to feel like it needs to be chic. It’s really colorful, fun and kitschy. It really becomes authentic, and it feels different from what you usually see,” Cortázar said.
