Fire breaks out at construction site in Hong Kong’s Kai Tak

A fire has broken out at a construction site in a new development area in Hong Kong’s Kai Tak, with a section of scaffolding catching alight.

Police said they had received multiple reports at around 10.15am on Wednesday that a fire had erupted at a construction site opposite the Sogo Department Store on Concorde Road.

Pictures and video clips circulating online indicate the site is for the under-construction KEyPoint shopping centre, a project by public housing supplier Hong Kong Housing Society.

The Post has reached out to the society for comment.

The Fire Services Department said the blaze involved scaffolding at the site, but did not confirm whether it was made of metal or bamboo.
