Julian Sharpe says that while at least 700,000 people attend services at Anglican churches in England each week, around 800,000 people also attend a professional football match in England each week (Letters, 7 October). It sounds as though there is a case for the Football Supporters’ Association, like the Church of England, to have representatives in the House of Lords.

I agree that further education has lacked support in the UK (Starmer’s further education plans augur well, but the policy detail will be telling, 30 September). I suggest that we start to combine further and higher education, locating them together and including technical training in academic work and vice versa. Perhaps politics, plumbing and economics could become a new PPE.
