A Hong Kong court has allowed HSBC to take possession of a subsidised flat belonging to murdered socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung’s former father-in-law after he failed to repay a mortgage loan of HK$2 million (US$256,964).
Kwong, a retired police sergeant, is currently detained at the maximum-security Stanley Prison pending a murder trial over Choi’s killing.
Part of the model’s dismembered remains were discovered at a three-storey village house in Tai Po on February 24, 2023. She was 28.
Kwong’s two sons, Anthony Kwok Kong-kit, 34, and Alex Kwong Kong-chi, 30, are also in jail awaiting trial.
The court heard that Kwong mortgaged the 291 sq ft subsidised flat in July 2020 to secure a HK$2.07 million mortgage loan from HSBC, but failed to repay the outstanding amount despite making some partial payments.
