Dior‘s latest retail venture — The House of Dior Beijing — will be located in the heart of the Sanlitun Beijing district, a flagship development within the capital city’s luxury retail scene.
The project, one of the largest to date, spans five stories and was conceived by Christian de Portzamparc, the first French architect to win the Pritzker Prize, who also designed Dior’s flagships in Seoul — launched in 2015 — followed by Geneva in 2024.
Dubbed a “building-sculpture,” the facade of the store will be embellished with petal shapes and clean-cut lines meant to evoke “the movement made by the toiles as Christian Dior cut them for his haute couture dresses,” the brand said in a statement.
Golden artisanal glass tiles also will embellish the exterior, echoing the grandeur and elegance of the Forbidden City’s imperial past, according to the brand.
“This opening affirms more than ever the numerous affinities ceaselessly forged with the infinitely rich history and culture of China,” Dior said.
The House of Dior Beijing will be officially unveiled on Dec. 11.
Calling the new retail project a “kingdom of dreams,” the store will encompass the universe of the French fashion house, including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear lines, accessories, fine jewelry and watches, Dior Maison objects, and fragrances from La Collection Privée. Limited-edition products imagined exclusively for the location will also be offered.
In addition to retail offerings, the store will contain a gallery space that will pay homage to its founder’s friendships with the artist community of his time. A room highlighted with handcrafted murals, the space will include paintings by established Chinese artists Wang Xiyao and Xu Zhen, special commissions from Hong Hao, furniture by Franck Evennou, Claude Lalanne and Gio Ponti, and a floral composition by Azuma Makoto, which will subtly recall its founding couturier’s cultivated love for flowers and nature.
The top floor of the store, which will be accessed via a monumental spiral staircase, will feature a room full of white toiles — a ballgown in deep red illustrates Dior’s statement that “red is the color of life,” one that later went on to inspire its beauty lineup.
The fifth floor also will extend into several VIP lounges and a private terrace overlooking the downtown Beijing skyline, adding a refined touch to the retail experience.
A first for Beijing, the new flagship will include a Monsieur Dior restaurant helmed by Anne-Sophie Pic, the most Michelin-starred female chef in the world. According to Dior, the menu will weave together “gastronomy and poetry” in an enchanting setting to offer a multisensory experience.
The Beijing Sanlitun project was launched in 2010 by Hong Kong’s real estate giant Swire Properties. The project began its extensive Northern District upgrade after Dover Street Market Beijing relocated in 2022.
The House of Dior Beijing is one of three standalone stores opening in the reorganized Northern District, alongside Louis Vuitton and Hermès.
