A Miss Universe contestant who dramatically fell off stage on Wednesday during a preliminary round of the pageant was doing fine and recovering in hospital, the organisation’s leader said.

Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry was walking across the stage when she stepped directly off the elevated surface during Wednesday’s portion of the competition in Bangkok.

Social media videos showed several people rushing to Henry’s aid as soon as she walked off stage, and other clips showed her leaving on a stretcher.

“I was there [at the hospital] with her family and her, and thankfully, there are no broken bones and she is under good care,” Miss Universe CEO Raul Rocha wrote on social media. “She will remain under observation for the rest of the night and we will remain in touch with her family to support her.”

The Miss Universe Jamaica organisation also confirmed Henry did not suffer any life-threatening injuries and asked “everyone to stay upbeat, lift her in prayer and send positive thoughts”.
