London’s King’s Road has long been a shopping hotspot but it’s particularly hot at present with a raft of openings that underline the appeal of the almost-two-mile-long thoroughfare.
The latest major name to land there is SMCP’s Maje label. The new Maje boutique is “a tribute to the Mediterranean, a land of inspiration shared by Judith Milgrom, the Maison’s founder, and interior designer Valériane Lazard. Both are deeply inspired by its singular light and the strength of natural materials”.
The façade, in a deep glazed brown, “opens onto a radiant and welcoming universe,” we’re told. On the floor, the pink terracotta tiles from Raujolles “evoke southern villages, their authenticity and their mineral softness”. The hammered wrought iron racks are very French rustic.
Ceramic podiums by Canoa Lab, handmade in Portugal, “echo the traditional jars found throughout the Mediterranean basin, while a curved, enveloping and inviting sofa” is all about making the customer feel comfortable.
Gouged wood and organic wickerwork go with the lime-coated walls, creating a natural edge. There are also tinted and textured glass mirrors.
Other recent King’s Road openings include Vuori, Arket, Birkenstock, K-way, and H&M, among others, including multiple pop-ups.
When major landlord Cadogan released its latest results this summer, it called out the King’s Road as a particular bright spot.
