Mariners' Cal Raleigh Makes History, Breaks Yankees Star Aaron Judge's AL HR Record

Add another record to Cal Raleigh’s historic season.

The Seattle Mariners star catcher broke Aaron Judge’s American League home run record (regular season and postseason combined) when he hit his 65th homer of 2025 in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Raleigh put together an outstanding MVP campaign during the regular season, leading the majors in home runs (60) while recording the third-most RBI (125) and fifth-best OPS (.948).

His 60 regular season home runs were the most in a season by a primary catcher, the most in a season by a switch hitter and broke the Mariners franchise record. While he came two home runs shy of breaking Judge’s regular-season AL home run record from 2022, he’s now bested the New York Yankees star in total homers.

It’s only fitting that the AL MVP race is between Raleigh and Judge.

Raleigh, who is playing in his second postseason, has had a playoff run to remember. Coming into Monday’s game, he had notched four home runs, seven RBI, a .302 batting average and a 1.028 OPS.

The only thing that could make Raleigh’s season better would be winning the World Series.

Seattle beat the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS to move on to its first ALCS since 2001. The Mariners won the first two games of the series against Toronto before dropping Games 3 and 4. The two teams split Games 5 and 6 to set up a winner-takes-all Game 7 on Monday.

Should Seattle outlast the Blue Jays, the Mariners will be on the way to their first World Series in franchise history, thanks in large part to the efforts of Raleigh.
