NFL Exec Rips Raiders' Pete Carroll, Jets' Aaron Glenn for Failing to Coach Game Plan

The start of the 2025 NFL season has not gone as planned for the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets, and some around the league feel that first-year head coaches Pete Carroll and Aaron Glenn are to blame.

The Athletic’s Mike Sando spoke to an executive from another team who criticized both Carroll and Glenn for their respective struggles with their teams.

“What I think is so interesting is the two guys that want to run the defensive programs and get the veteran quarterbacks to run the ball and play defense can’t run the ball and can’t play defense,” the exec said, referring to the Raiders and Jets.

The Raiders fell to 1-4 after suffering a blowout 40-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. It was the second time this season that Las Vegas allowed 40 or more points, and it was also the second time the team failed to score a touchdown for the entire game.

The Jets, somehow, have been even worse than the Raiders, falling to 0-5 after a 37-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in front of their home fans at MetLife Stadium. New York is now the only winless team in the league, and the team has yet to solve its issues with penalties and turnovers.

Both Glenn and Carroll are known to be players’ coaches who preach a positive message, but it’s starting to seem like their methods aren’t effective with their respective teams. Still, it’s important that they both continue to try to rebuild the culture within their franchises if they hope to turn things around at some point this year.
