Not even the Pope is above trolling a sporting rival.

Pope Leo XIV responded to a fan who yelled “Go Cubs!” by reminding them that “they lost” in the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers.

No surprises there—Pope Leo XIV is an avowed Chicago White Sox fan:

“It’s pretty cool,” rookie reliever Grant Taylor told reporters back in June regarding the Pope’s White Sox fandom. “Worldwide, baseball is growing a lot more. But in Europe, it’s not very big. So if he’s over there in the Vatican wearing a White Sox hat, maybe all of them will become White Sox fans. Grow the fanbase a little bit.”

Perhaps the Pope could put in a good word with the heavenly powers that be, given that the White Sox have now posted three straight seasons with 101 or more losses. Some divine intervention would be welcomed in the South Side.
