Seoul to monitor Kim Jong Un’s visit to China for signs of diplomatic shift


South Korea’s top officials said Kim Jong Un’s planned participation in events marking the 80th anniversary of China’s war against Japan next week warrants close attention amid speculation that his engagement in multilateral diplomacy could pave the way for renewed negotiations.

National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac on Friday called Kim’s participation noteworthy, suggesting it could lead to further high-level meetings.
