Swift opted to wear her long blonde hair in loose and glossy waves thrown over one shoulder: she’s consistently kept it long and it now sits mid-back, with a thick set of bangs feathery across her eyebrows. She also wore a new burgundy colored manicure, and kept makeup surprise-free with a feline eyeliner flick and a muted red lip.

Este Haim, meanwhile, stuck to her own understated and polished sense of style in a navy wool coat, a black ruffled silk dress, and yellow-gold pumps. The Haim bassist wore her own blonde hair up in a high but relaxed ponytail.

Swift has a solid rotation of hairstyles (RIP, the chin-length blunt bob of 2016) that she won’t often stray from: a half-up half-down look, teeny-tiny braids through tousled waves, the sporadic appearance of a millennial-coded fishtail braid. She had a bit more fun with the Life of a Showgirl promo looks, including some ’40s style pin curls, a brunette box bob, and backcombed and crystal-studded hair.

But more often than not, she’ll stick to these classic and free-flowing tresses, hair that she’s put time and effort in to grow (with a little help from some expertly executed extensions for thickness and dimension, or so it looks like)—it’s a key tenet of that glossy pop star meets girl-next-door vibe she’s carefully crafted. It’s easily replicable too—just arm yourself with a good hair serum for smoothness and flyaways—for anyone fussing over their own hair this festive season.
