After outstanding play to the lead his Toronto Blue Jays past the Seattle Mariners, star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been named ALCS MVP.
Guerrero was announced as the ALCS MVP following Toronto’s 4-3 win over the Mariners in Monday’s Game 7.
Guerrero had a series to remember against the Mariners. In seven games, he collected three home runs and three RBI with a .385 batting average and a 1.330 OPS, which ranks as the fourth-highest OPS in ALCS history.
His best game of the series came in Wednesday’s 13-4 win in Game 3 when he went 4-for-4 with a homer and three runs.
Guerrero has been arguably the best player all postseason. He has the most home runs (six), the most RBI (12), the second-best batting average (.462) and the best OPS (1.532). He’ll look to continue his tremendous play against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
Before the 2025 season started, Guerrero’s future in Toronto was a bit up in the air. He and the team reportedly were far apart on a deal, and he was even involved in some trade rumblings.
But the Blue Jays though better of moving on from their franchise player, and they awarded him a massive 14-year, $500 million contract.
It’s safe to say giving Guerrero that contract was a good decision.
Toronto wasn’t exactly a favorite to reach the World Series coming into the year, but the Blue Jays, thanks in large part to Guerrero, were one of the hottest teams in baseball over the summer, and it led to their first division title in 10 years.
Toronto is now just four wins away from its first World Series title since 1993, but it will have to go up against the Dodgers, who have cruised through the postseason. The Blue Jays will count on Guerrero to take down the defending champs.
