He has also been provisionally suspended for Cardiff’s Challenge Cup opener at Stade Francais but will be available for the trip to Paris if he completes World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme.

“The Disciplinary Committee has upheld the red card issued to the player and by applying World Rugby’s sanctioning provisions, have determined that the mid-range entry point of six weeks/matches was appropriate,” read a statement.

“In light of the player accepting he committed an act of foul play as well as other mitigating factors, they have applied the maximum 50% reduction in sanction, thus reducing the final sanction to three weeks/matches.”

Wales fielded Adams alongside Blair Murray and Louis Rees-Zammit in the back three against Japan.

Rees-Zammit will also be unavailable against the Springboks because the fixture is outside World Rugby’s official Test window.

Tom Rogers started against Argentina in the autumn opener while wing Rio Dyer and full-back Jacob Beetham the other options in Tandy’s squad.
